US to contribute $20 bil. to G7 loan to Ukraine US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has said that the country is ready to contribute 20 billion dollars to a Group of Seven aid package for Ukraine.
That’s 40 percent of the total amount agreed by the group.

Yellen said the US is “very close to finalizing America’s portion” of the package, and that American taxpayers will not be footing the bill.

She also said “We agreed with Ukraine that even if there is a final settlement and a truce is reached that it will be Russian funds that will go to repay these loans.”

The G7 leaders decided in June to provide a 50 billion dollar loan to Ukraine by the year-end, using interest from frozen Russian assets.

With the presidential election looming, Yellen’s comment comes amid criticism from Republicans over further US support to Ukraine.
