Soaring food prices in northern Gaza leave people struggling to eat Food prices are soaring in northern parts of the Gaza Strip. Residents say they cannot afford even the most basic items, and must survive on leftover humanitarian supplies.

Street stalls in Gaza City were seen on Wednesday selling canned foods, pasta and oil. But residents say almost nobody has the financial means to buy them.

Qatar-based broadcaster al Jazeera says tomatoes are sometimes being traded at 180 dollars per kilogram in the area, compared with 12 dollars in the south.

One woman in Gaza City said Israel’s siege has left even canned foods in short supply.

Another woman said she is extremely exhausted after evacuating from Jabaliya to Gaza City, adding that life will become even harder in winter.
