  1. The Armed Forces stated that they are not investigating the ‘ROK drone’ which North Korea claims to have infiltrated Pyongyang’s airspace.

Joint Chiefs of Staff Public Information Office director Lee Seongjun said in the regular briefing held on the 17th, responding to a question that asked whether the Armed Forces are investigating the possibility that civilian organizations might have sent the drone, that they are “not investigating”.

Lee stated that he “does not know why the Joint Chiefs has to investigate [a] drone that appeared above Pyongyang”, and that “such a matter is something North Korea must figure out”.

He continued that “the Armed Forces has information on military situations that occurred in October, and [they] believe that there is no need to investigate anything extra just because there has been a claim made by North Korea.”

However, he added that the “military situations that occurred in October” does not refer to the supposed drone infiltration as stated by the North, and that they cannot confirm whether or not the Armed Forces have sent a drone.

North Korea announced on the 11th that South Korean drones infiltrated Pyongyang on the 3rd, 9th and 10th and distributed anti-North Korean leaflets.

On the 15th, they had announced through Kim Yo-Jong, younger sibling of Kim Jong-Un, that “We(North Korea) have obtained clear evidence that Hanguk military gangsters are the criminals behind the adversarial challenge of invading sovereignty via means of infiltrating the airspace of the capital of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea”.

The Armed Forces maintain the stance that they “Cannot confirm whether or not the North Korean claims are true”.
