Think hard, Republicans. You really want to do this again?

    >I’m not going to sit here and appeal to your sense of patriotism, because we’ve all tried that already, and it’s like trying to reason an alcoholic out of drinking. I get that you’re afraid of Trump’s nationalist movement, afraid of primary challenges in your districts, still selling yourselves on the dubious idea that Trump represents the restoration of conservative values, rather than a grotesque perversion of them.

    >You’re not going to do the right thing because it’s right, and I’m not going keep pushing that particular boulder up a hill.

    >Instead, I will appeal to your self-interest. Because if we’re clear-eyed and mercenary about this, you could be on the verge of a huge political opportunity — and clinging to Trump amid another constitutional crisis might be the only way to screw it up.

The Lincoln project ad featuring Sam Eliot makes this point effectively. It’s available on YouTube.

  3. >If Harris wins, the GOP would be sabotaging a bright future by not conceding that Trump lost.

They do. They really do want to do this again.

The first time was just a practice run, this time they have a lot more MAGA “yes men” in congress and SCOTUS…

No rational person would want that again

But we are not dealing with rational people. There are maga cultists

It’s so exhausting just thinking about 4 more years of Trump in power. The corruption, the nonstop temper tantrums about how unfair people are to him. The televised meetings that accomplish nothing but he spends half an hour going around the table making people say how great he is. The vitriol and racism, and taking credit for the economy that he has spent 4 years bashing, even though it’s the exact same.

  6. I will never understand why they’d be willing to break everything forever to get four more years of a dude they don’t even like.

They’d be in such a much better position if he lost and could he some martyr they talked about without having to actually have him run anything.

After eight years of Democratic rule, a 2028 ticket of Haley / Youngkin would probably win 380 electoral votes. What is the rush?

Is it just a need for instant gratification?

The GOP needs a fiery metaphorical death and then, maybe, they can rise again as an actual opposition party instead of the political theater troupe they’ve been for most of my Gen X life.

  8. When was the last time you heard a Republican politician talk about how they would promote American prosperity?

America was built on the dream of a better life. Democrats, however imperfectly, want to follow that dream. Today’s Republicans don’t. All they talk about are scapegoats. Vote better, and help America do better.

  9. The false narrative of claiming Trump won the election will go down as one of the dumbest notions in history. If it happens again I will hate to tell my grandkids how stupid people were during this time. People think they are right but will be remembered as idiots.

I choose to be on the right side of history. Not the one that 20 years from now is known as the Great Con Job.

  10. What gets me is that there are a lot of people who don’t realize they are not voting Republican. Its not Republican vs Democrat. Its Democrat vs Trumplican. A lot of folk don’t seem to notice that the current Republican party have been taken over by extremists that are not all that much like the image of what a Republican is they have in their heads.

I noticed that a lot of people who talk about voting for Trump list off some pretty vague stuff and if you listen to Trump a lot of the real stuff like promising a better economy is really vague. Saying you will do better, and actually talking about a plan are two different things. It really shows the man has no real plans beyond the specific extreme crap he talks about. Just ask a Trump voter, what his plans really are. Doing better, is not a reasonable answer because it means nothing.

  11. Only every Republican elected since the 1990s has given us a recession.
I’m sure it’ll be fine this time though.

Who are they kidding? Republicans have followed Trump too far down this path, even led him down the beginnings of it. It is too late for them to remove the MAGA blight they welcomed in. Though demographic shifts are far too slow and it’s hard to predict the timeline, and the Supreme Court will slow the process, they are a party in its dying throes, with or without Trump.

I think maga has taken the “i’m not going to be told what to do” stance and expanded it to an all or nothing attitude, no compromise, no listening to any other ideas just a simplistic my way or the highway.

It’s going to take a long time to get these people back

I don’t understand why people are having a tough time remembering the Trump presidency. Some people are acting like it was amazing and things were so good. I get recency bias but come on. It was a joke. He made fun of all of our allies. Tax cuts slightly stimulated the economy but it was mostly low interest rates. Tax cuts mostly led to stock buybacks and dividends. His Covid response was absolutely not leadership at all. I get people are frustrated with inflation but most of it cannot be attributed to the current admin

  15. There are Republicans not drinking the MAGA Kool Aid. An important pitch to them is that their vote is private and they’re free to vote for Harris and tell their GOP friends they voted for Trump. You do the right thing without suffering the blow back.

  16. Vegetable_Radio8236 on

They do. They 1000% do. Trump represents everything the Republican leadership have wanted since Nixon and they will stop at nothing to get it. Every Republican president since then has been an attempt to get a stooge into office that will do their bidding, and they finally got him. Project 2025 didn’t get written in a day, folks. And even if Trump loses, it just becomes Project 2029 instead

  17. They should all do what Trump just said to do at one of his latest ramblings, which was-
“go vote on January 5th”. Yeah, January. I agree! They should! 🤣

  18. We should be asking that question to *Democrats.*

It’s only been 4 years since Trump was President, yet so many freaking Democrats are staying home. Have we really forgotten what Trump being president was like?

  19. Republicans would gladly eat a shit sandwich if there was even a chance a liberal would have to smell their breath.
