New career support group for women starts up in Japan A new career support group for women held its first meeting on Tuesday, bringing together female executives from a cross-section of industries as advisers.

The group says it will offer networking opportunities, as well as guidance on accounting, taxes and other business-related subjects.

Japan’s labor ministry says women filled 12.7 percent of corporate manager positions as of last year. That’s low compared with other industrialized countries.

Deloitte Tohmatsu Financial Advisory partner Otsuka Taiko came up with the idea for the group.

Otsuka says companies can be blindsided and make wrong decisions when their senior ranks operate and think in the same uniform manner. She adds that a more diverse group of managers can help reduce such business risks.
