– During covid some orthodox Jewish passengers allegedly refused to follow the rules over masks and not gathering in the aisles.
– Lufthansa decided to kick all orthodox Jews off the plane because it was “not practical to address each passenger individually”
– Passengers interviewed said they didn’t see any misbehaviour, and Lufthansa could not identify any individuals responsible at a later date.
– Record $4 million fine.

I agree with the punishment for Lufthansa. Collective punishment is always bad.

Knew it was about Orthodox Jews before even opening it. They are often the worst people to travel with on planes and several IIRC have banned them outright.

>The DOT said **Lufthansa recognised that the action also would hurt people who had complied with the instructions** but “concluded it was not practical to address each passenger individually”.
Wow dude that’s fucked. Getting penalized for other passengers’ misbehavior has to be enraging.

As an Israeli, orthodox Jews are a pain on flights and treat stewards very poorly, I don’t mind kicking them out if they don’t follow rules.
It’s embarrassing.

They should have spread the fine over all airlines and said it wasn’t practical to identify the culprit

I know some Hasidic people can be very specific and needy but you can’t just kick out all of them because some of them refused to follow your commands.

Hi. Orthodox Jew here (grew up non observant )
I see a lot of hate and generalization of Orthodox Jews. Too many to combat 1 by 1, especially with any folks who’ve already made up their mind on a population of roughly 500-600,000 people. Feel free to ask me anything here if you’re not in the group I described.
As far as this case, it’s literally textbook definition of bias/racism/anti semitism etc
And legally, you simply can’t do what they did lol. EVEN if 25 people acted however was alleged, you can’t then kick off every person that fits that “look”
Whatever lawyer got this case for the plaintiff had to laugh out loud when he saw it
