Up until 2006 UNIFIL could search houses and confiscate weapons within their respective AO.

Now Hezbollah dictates what roads and villages they can travel to.

Resolution 1701 is a goddamned travesty that only enables non state actors like Hezbollah and does nothing to ensure the safety of the Israelis on the other side of the blue line.

I spent 6 months in Lebanon under UNIFIL and I never felt so useless in my life.

  2. The fact they just released video of a Hezbollah tunnel just a short walk from a UNIFIL observation tower is all the evidence you need.

[They watched Hezbollah building up for years and said nothing.](https://youtu.be/hSVSMBUEm8M)

  3. South Lebanon is dense and compact so all civilian infrastructure is going to see Hezbollah militant, terrorist sites being in close proximity to everything. Precision bombing can be effective but usually it destroys everything around the intended target. The IDF will need to decide what collateral damage aka civilian deaths it is willing to accept. The destruction of apartment blocks that has killed dozens of civilians to get one Hezbollah commander is excessive. Israel tries to warn people to leave an area but when the safe areas get bombed as well, the trust is gone. Isreal has a right to defend itself and take action, but the cost is tremendous and 100-fold and turning regular Lebanese who hate Hezbollah into enemies with these ongoing civilian deaths.

  4. UNIFIL should be able to demonstrate that it’s able to carry out the task it’s been set.

If it can no longer do this, for whatever reason, the troops should be withdrawn out of harms way.
