    >”North Korea is again a case in point … North Korean people are under great oppression right now, but I think that system is facing more and more difficulties and one day, hopefully, it will unite with South Korea under a more democratic system,” he added.

North Korea didn’t collapse or face a rebellion even after experiencing a severe famine in the 90s, so I don’t know what more needs to occur at this point.

However, judging by North Korea’s recent actions and given the fact that South Koreans are growing more opposed to reunification, the chances look especially slim these days, unfortunately.

Personally, I support a phased approach to reunification in addition to seeking international aid, so that it doesn’t completely wreck the economy when South Korea has to do the heavy lifting.

But, I feel like some Koreans are too quick to denounce reunification as if it’s something that must be done overnight.
