No, the “Brisbane Subway” never got further than a line of the map in that report. It’s an interesting document, but most of it isn’t going to happen at all let alone by 2031. Remeber of that rail list we’re only doing SP1 and SP2 (Which is half-arsed for various reasons) 14 years later.
And with SP9 we went the opposite way with Campbell Newman removing bus lanes. We got the interim solution for SP7 early this year and SP10 has in part been delivered with future planning underway.
Essentially the document is useless and should be taken with a grain of salt, we’ve had two change of governments since so those plans are fairly moot.
Thanks Labor… I’m sure the new Gympie Road Tunnel and Centeneary Highway Tunnel will be a good investment for a super fund somewhere though.
– Cross River Rail – Complete 2026
– Subway scrapped..
– North-West Rail Line wont be done before 2031, if ever (prioritised Gympie Rd Toll Tunnel instead)
– GC Lightrail ‘could’ reach Coolangatta by 2031
– Rail Network Sectorisation – will only partially done with the Beenleigh to Kuraby quadruplication. Crtitically the network is missing Kuraby-Yeerongpilly quadruplication and Darra to Indooroopilly electrification of 4th track to allow true sectorisation, in addition to the North West Rail Line for Sunshine Coast service.
Further in this document you will see plans for the following by 2031:
– Sringfield Line Extension (no timeline)
– Sunshine Coast line to Maroochydore (Plan now to only reach Caloundra by 2031, wont reach Maroochydore before 2031
– Beaudesert rail line to Flagstone (confirmed not before 2031)
– extending Gold Coast rail line to Coolangatta (no timeline)
Besides Sunshien Coast, we might see the Sprinfield line extended, but silence on this proposal is deafening and no committment or when or how much.
I was going to say whoever wrote the paragraph on the Brisbane Subway sounds drunk, but I can see this came from TMR and I have gotten “Official responses” from TMR before and in relation to what they were replying to their responses have been unhinged.
But this was written in… 2008? Good to see consistency in diligence of messaging and communications.
It’s a good dream. And look if there is is a change of government expect another shake up of PT in se Queensland. Hell, even labour need to look hard at the options they have and haven’t committed. Overall needs improvement across the board
