As soon as she heard Brian Stanley was leaving , she contacted the Gardai. Insanity

Finally something she *will* stand over.

It’s hard to know what to make of this absent a clear explanation as to the nature of the complaint.
It doesn’t look good to report somebody to the Gardaí after they resign. Of course, that might be getting ahead of a story.

Timeline according to the article
August 2: Statement from complainant against Brian Stanley received by Sinn Féin;
August 3: Brian Stanley made aware of complaint;
“Early August”: Mary Lou McDonald made aware of complaint, but not made aware of its nature;
August through September: Preliminary inquiry process ongoing, during which time a “serious” counter-complaint surfaces;
October 4: Preliminary inquiry process concludes, with findings written up and sent to both Mr Stanley and the complainant
October 12: Brian Stanley resigns, and Ms McDonald fully briefed on inquiry process for the first time;
October 13: Matter referred to gardaí
If the serious counter complaint was made know in August/September, why was it not until the middle of October that they referred it to the gardai? Why wait until the middle of October?

Car crash interview by Mary-Lou on Morning Ireland. She was waffling about Sinn Fein being a very large organisation as an excuse on why she didn’t know about the Brian Stanley internal investigation and Mary Wilson cut her off and said “you are not a multinational”. She also admitted that the issue was only forwarded to the Gardai on Saturday evening. Basically as long as Stanley was a member he was going through their internal Kangaroo Court system but once he left the party and the issue became public then they handed the case over to the Gardai.
She’s finished.

They have a lot of maturing to do as a party, to be honest. And I mean this in as non-political a way as is possible. Like that Clare TD swinging out of the rafters of her charity house, the gangster councillors, etc. Its all well and good to be building up a party with a new demographic, but you need some basic control.

Have to laugh at some of the commenters on here, if Sinn Fein don’t report something to the police up north, they are called paedo-enablers.
If they do pass something to the gardai down here, they’re treating long-time TD’s disgracefully and mismanaging the situation and incapable of governing.
Which one is it? Do you want them to report internal situations or not?
You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

My prediction
* People who don’t like SF will not like this
* People who like SF will not be that bothered by *SF’s handling* of matter (even if the matter itself might be something they object to)

I wonder was the matter sent to the Gardai after the “kangaroo court” reference made by the resigning party member?

Im confused why they passed it to the Garda if it was not criminal?

Sounds like they need to be put in front of the Committee of Public Accounts

SF has been fumbling an open goal over the last 18 months! Can’t say I’m personally disappointed myself.
But shocking from a political point of view.

Whoever the complainant is engaged with the internal SF process rather than go to the Gardaí.
What that means is up for interpretation.

There have been a few things coming out of Sinn Fein over the past while. I’m confused, is this related to the Sinn Fein member that resigned after being referred to the guards for allegedly sending some kind of inappropriate messages to a 17 year old?

I’m taking this all with a pinch of salt until I know what is the meat of the accusation.

This whole thing is just shite for the opposition in our political system. It’s looking like FFG are even more likely to clean up at the election now.
