Honestly, The guy who cut the trees down has a fault, but I don’t think I want to put it completely on him, the government has responsibility as well, and this is why I keep saying we need to have codes to everything.
The person who cut the trees down says it was interfering with their fence, in reality, it’s a known thing that trees can destroy walls and structures through their roots, in this instance they had a point to make, now whether or not they got the municipality involved is the main question, if they didn’t, it’s on them. But the question is there, had they, or have they, did the municipality do something about it? or would they have? Personally, I don’t think they would have done anything, inspect it or suggest solutions, in fact, i’ve seen so many “apply a patch to a huge crack” solutions in Armenia, I am almost entirely convinced they would not have done an inspection and would have just said “it’s safe, leave the trees”, when in fact a proper inspection wouldn’t have been done, it would have been a visual inspection and an “opinion” than an evaluation.
Then we have the argument of the person who cut the trees, who had planted them himself. This is where the government is completely responsible, why do we not have laws/codes that instructs what kind of trees it’s possible to plant, at what distance etc, basically a general guideline to prevent such cases in the first place. As of now, anyone can plant anywhere, which would be seen as a positive thing on the surface, but once you get into the engineering perspective, we really need laws and guidelines, I would even go as far as to say citizens need to submit an application before planting, just make it an easy one. It’s not just root/structure safety, but rather public safety as well, some trees attract pests, others spread diseases, others are not suitable in the soil they’re planted in and they can rot, eventually falling down on someone, etc.
Then you have that guy that said cutting down the trees did… 1,590,000amd worth of damages to the government….what the actual fuck? First off, the government didn’t plant them, so it’s not damages, it’s added costs that would otherwise have been spent before had the citizen not planted these. I get that it’s 45 trees, but come on, seriously, give me half as much and I’ll plant 60 trees in their places myself, including all the transportation and tools on me. And to be frank, I think it will exceed 1,590,000 budget as well. These numbers are getting crazier and crazier.
