  1. Honestly, I don’t see much point in becoming a Republic; the crown is really just a figurehead now, and has no real power in Australia. Would be keen to see a cost estimate, and cost savings associated with formally becoming a republic before I would vote to become one.

I see no meaningful benefit for Australia of going through the process of becoming a republic.

What less than 10% – probably the elite – of Australians are still pushing for a Republic. I do not see any debates

  3. I don’t think I trust our political system, especially federal, to be the highest power within our country, our media has too much sway.

Plus if it’s in the media, there’s probably an agenda behind it which will harm most Australians.

I don’t really care about their visit, except that they should pay their costs while visiting.

  5. I personally think we should have severed ties with “the Monarchy” 50 years ago. Having a foreign King, who is King only because he is the child of a Queen is repugnant in this day and age.

Democracy, with an elected leader, is something to strive forward for. It doesn’t need to be a Republic, it can still be a democratic society, with all the fundamentals of an intelligent, progressive and peaceful nation, striving for the betterment of ALL Australians. We don’t require a King for that, especially one that brings a strictly conservative ideology forged in the ancient history of a nation far removed from current day Australia.

Our leader, our flag, our nation…..not Englands.

  6. Fuck Charles and his wench. It is unbelievable that we still have this heredity nonsense anywhere. How many more old people have to drop off their perch before we can get rid of this?

  7. I really don’t have it in me to care about the republic issue right now. Seems like another distraction to avoid addressing our current living concerns, you know, like housing, climate, and the general expense and shiteness of everything. Some time ago, like a decade or two ago, this debate might’ve been a lot more interesting to me but right now, having a figurehead king ought to be the least of our concerns.

  8. Debates flare huh? I’m struggling to find anyone actively giving a shit, let alone debating it, save for “journalists” looking to beat up a story and one or two people running “pro-republic” groups trying to get some publicity. Most people have bigger things to worry about
