Japan’s Empress Emerita Michiko was discharged from a hospital on Sunday after surgery for a broken leg.
The Empress Emerita fractured the upper part of her right femur in a fall at her residence at the Akasaka Estate on Sunday last week. She underwent surgery to repair the break at the University of Tokyo Hospital two days later.
The Imperial Household Agency says her pain eased after the operation and she started rehabilitation the next day.
The agency adds she is recovering well and will continue the rehabilitation program at her residence.
Empress Emerita Michiko will turn 90 years old on October 20.
