I’m going to make a point that the states with the highest number of complaints are also the states with the largest metropolitan areas. So these areas have more and worse potholes because of their populations? Maybe. But it’s also possible that having the highest amount of people increases the likelihood of more individuals that are eager to complain publicly and loudly about whatever problem catches their attention at any given time. Just saying.

Complaints per kilometer of roads seems like a flawed metric considering roads with more throughput will get more complains per pothole. Maybe the roads in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming aren’t better. Maybe there’s fewer people to complain. Complaints per person would be a better metric on how the state of potholes is impacting people as a whole.

This is complaints, not actual pot holes. I’ve lived in several states. Utah has far fewer potholes than Wisconsin, but rates as more. But Wisconsin is more used to them, almost proud of the harsh environment they live in. So they complain far less.

Growing up and learning to drive in CA but living between NY, IL, and LA, I have to say that the Louisiana potholes are more prevalent and destructive. California:isn’t that aggressive and NY are more upstate. With Louisiana, you need an insurance plan for your suspension and tires.

Oklahoma is significantly smaller than Texas, and might actually have more pot holes across the entire state than Texas does.
I’m guessing people have just given up on complaining about lit holes in Oklahoma

Been to most of these high and low states. Can’t speak for the west coast. But Louisiana and the East….rough. The state border inbetween Tx and La is so weird. You are driving and smooth highway in Tx, hit the border and suddenly bump bump! And Montana and Wyoming, yeah like none. I remember in the town I lived in in Mt, they had a pot hole formed on a corner. It made the local paper. It was a bit satirical for sure but still rare enough to be jokingly written about.
