In the early hours of yesterday, four Vietnamese men who were fishing on a breakwater in Kamisu City, Ibaraki Prefecture, were swept away by waves and fell into the sea. Two of them were rescued, while two remain missing.
Around 10 PM yesterday, a Vietnamese man called 110 (the emergency number in Japan) to report that a friend had fallen into the water from the breakwater in Higashiwada, Kamisu City.
According to the police, six Vietnamese men were fishing on the breakwater when four of them were swept away by waves and fell into the sea one after another.
Of the four who fell in, a 39-year-old man and a 30-year-old man were rescued by the Japan Coast Guard and are reported to be unharmed. The remaining two men are still missing, and search efforts are ongoing.
The breakwater where the four were fishing was in a restricted area, and at the time, a wave warning was issued for the coastal area of Kamisu City.
