  1. Trump colluding to protect one of his own? Or just to protect himself? Either way it’s obvious that “free speech” X/Twitter is just a lame rebrand.

  2. Twitter has fallen so much.

It was once a pretty decent platform to stay updated on events, but now it’s just Truth Social lite

  3. It’s troubling that a billionaire can manipulate social media to suppress information during an election. This raises serious concerns about free speech and the integrity of our democracy.

Didn’t Vance just say a similar move by Facebook over the hunter Biden laptop cost trump a million votes?

  5. Looks like Musk’s whole “free speech” thing only applies when it suits him, especially when it’s protecting Trump’s interests. Kind of hypocritical

  6. I am starting to resent those that hold themselves out to be decent people (or are decent, well-meaning people) that continue to pay to use X.

It should be shunned and left to die. People that pay to have a blue checkmark are part of the problem.

Some think paying to stay there to ‘fight the good fight’ is needed or admirable, but I disagree. There are alternatives, good alternatives, and supporting Musk by paying to keep the platform alive is counterproductive in every way.

  7. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/oct/12/x-twitter-jd-vance-leaked-file) reduced by 79%. (I’m a bot)

    > Donald Trump's presidential campaign worked with X to prevent information about his running mate JD Vance from being posted on the social media platform, a move that resulted in the journalist who revealed the information being kicked off the site, according to reports.

    > The former president's team contacted X, owned by the billionaire Trump backer Elon Musk, about a 271-page document compiled by his campaign to vet Vance that was linked to by Ken Klippenstein, an independent journalist, the New York Times has reported.

    > Musk is set to appear at further Trump rallies – and he may even knock on voters' doors for the campaign in Pennsylvania in the coming week.

  8. Biden should just read them aloud during a fireside chat and then when people bitch he should claim presidential immunity.

It’s ironic how Musk claims to support free speech, but shuts down info that could hurt Trump’s campaign. Feels like free speech only applies when it suits them.

That stupid jumping picture is a poster of everything going wrong in the country. Money doesn’t talk, it screams. We’re getting fucked over by people with massive bank accounts, and a great percentage of our populous wants it that way.

  11. Really dangerous stuff here. Overt actions to elect candidate by a billionaire who has security clearance and government contracts. Also a massive disinformation machine.

  12. The one guy who had the balls to post it got his account banned but the Streisand effect kicked in and it was all over the news so didn’t work out too well for him.

  13. Isn’t that kind of coordination supposed to be illegal? Why bother having federal election laws if nobody is going to enforce them?

So much for neutrality. All that stuff about Hunter’s laptop, it’s almost like MAGA are giant hypocrites.

  15. Ah yes, political parties, former heads of state, and billionaires owning social media platforms working together to censor freedom of the press looks like free speech absolutism to me.
