A disaster evacuation drill has been held in Tokyo in which participants were invited to bring along their furry companions.
The event held on Saturday was organized by a disaster-prevention group focusing on protecting pets.
Twenty-five participants were briefed on what to pack in an emergency, including water and pet food.
They then set out on a 1.5 kilometers walk with their pets, carrying backpacks filled with supplies, and taking some breaks along the way.
A section of the route was littered with mock debris and shards of glass. The pets were given special shoes to protect their paws as they tottered over the obstacles.
A woman who took part with her dog said she was surprised that the emergency supplies were so heavy.
Since disasters occur often she said she will need to seriously contemplate what she needs to prepare to evacuate with her dog.
