I honestly thought I had already played this on PC, I guess it was on a console?
Confused old guys like me definitely won’t pay full price for the PC version, though people who haven’t already played it, maybe? At least you know you’re getting a good game. Two.

Rockstar Games is like Apple of the gaming industry.

Honestly? Fair game. If people don’t want it, they can not buy it (or get it through… alternative methods), but at least there IS an official PC port. Wish I could say the same for Bloodborne.

How else do you expect Rockstar to pay for the new GTA?
louiegumba on
I don’t see how this is a problem if people will pay for it. Porting a game of this age and size to it isn’t exactly easy, cheap or free.

I mean people have been wanting this for a decade and a half and the answer was always that the ps3’s moon rune code was too hard to port. If it works this is a win and im sure if we wait another decade and a half it’ll go down in price.
BroForceOne on
You’ve waited over a decade for it to come to Steam, you can probably wait a few more months for a Steam sale.
Peatore on
People will buy it anyway because gamers are fucking terrible for rewarding shitty behavior from publishers.

I thought at first the headline meant it cost them as much as a new game to port it to PC

With no multiplayer mode like the console versions.

Ya sounds about right as long they fixed it up and etc.

Will eventually buy this in a couple years when it’s on super deep sale.

I fully expect PC players to hold this to the same standard at which they judge Sony for releasing overpriced ports and remasters.

On the one hand, devs need to get paid for the work put in. On the other hand, nobody gives a 🐀🫏 about corporate greed.

They can charge whatever they want and you can buy it eventually at a price you agree with on sale.

It won’t. It will almost always be on special for $35. Then it will dip to $30 or $25 for special sales.
notduskryn on
Worth it considering they had to redo the whole codebase.

The semi recent Playstation and Switch versions were also $50. I don’t think this blindsided anyone. I’m going to buy it, simply because I’ve always been a PC gamer, so I’ve played RDR2 but never played RDR1. If I had already played it back in the day though, I’d probably take rain check until it was on sale for $20.

It will go on sale eventually

It would be a nice if it was redone in the RDR2 engine.

Almost as much? It’s significantly less than a new game.

Can anyone explain why this is? Is it basically just to protect console drm?
Because otherwise I don’t understand how “porting” a 14 year old game to **goddamn PC** is such an ordeal? It’s on 4 different consoles already, did each of those also cost as much as a entire new game? Not to encourage bad practices, but I feel like it would be extremely cheap to just take one of those and add to it to emulate on PC. It’s 14 years old, even if that’s very inefficient code for PCs I would guess they can take it at this point.
This kind of announcement “justifying high prices” is pretty dumb because I think most people’s takeaway would be that they would prefer a new game instead, and that they’re comically inept at remaking a game if it’s that expensive.

Umm, this game along with Undead Nightmares was successfully emulated on PC at 4K upscale at 60 fps with multiplayer mods many years ago.
I guess this is for people that don’t know how to torrent something and double click on things.

When rockstar announced GTA 5 at the end of the 360’s life they said they were not working on an Xbox One or PC version. I said fine.
When they announced the Xbox One version they said it would never come to PC. I said okay.
When they announced it for PC I said fuck you Rockstar.
Looking back it was incredibly naive to believe a company wouldn’t want to make money. But I wouldn’t have bought the 360 or One version if I knew a PC version was in the works from day one, something they later admitted to.

Does the PC port of RDR1 use the latest version of the RAGE engine?
The original console versions used an older version of RAGE, and numerous updates have been made since then.

It’s a very established franchise and people were very much expecting this to come out to pc since forever. And Take two knows that. Same thing will happen when Sony decides to do a remaster of Bloodbourne. Consumers just can’t control themselves.

Is the engine being updated or the game remastered at least??
