>Statement Given in Name of Spokesperson; “Violation of International Humanitarian Laws/UNSC Resolutions”
The government has issued condemnations of the attack on the UN base by the Israel Defense Forces(IDF), who are currently engaged in ground-based war against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs(MoFA) released a statement on the 11th under the name of the spokesperson and stated that “[we] express deep concerns on Israeli armed forces’ recent attacks of United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon(UNIFIL) infrastructure and personnel”.
“[We] condemn all actions that threaten the safety of UNIFIL”, the statement continued. It emphasized that “Our government reiterates that attacks on UNIFIL are a violation of international humanitarian laws and United Nations Security Council resolution #1701, and urge that these obligations be kept under all circumstances”.
Earlier, on October 10th local time, an IDF tank had opened fire on a UNIFIL base located in Naqoura, a Lebanese southern border city. This attack injured two soldiers and partly damaged security watch functions.
Nations that participate in UNIFIL condemned the attack almost simultaneously.
UNIFIL are comprised of around 10 thousand military personnel, and act as a buffer between Israel and Lebanon.
