Tesla unveils prototype of driverless robotaxi US electric-car maker Tesla has unveiled a prototype of a self-driving taxi that has no steering wheel or pedals.

Tesla showcased the prototype of the electric taxi, called “Cybercab,” at a movie studio in Burbank in the US state of California on Thursday.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk got into the vehicle, which traveled through a movie set.

Musk said the company expects the two-seat, fully autonomous taxi to be priced under 30,000 dollars, and that it aims to start production as early as 2026.

Tesla previously said it would develop low-priced models to increase demand for electric vehicles. Tesla has recently been focusing on developing self-driving taxis.

Both the Chinese IT giant Baidu and Waymo, the self-driving vehicle subsidiary of US tech giant Alphabet, have already put self-driving taxis into practical use.
