Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said Thursday that Israel may have committed war crimes by attacking the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon, adding that there could be no justification.
“The hostile acts carried out and repeated by the Israeli forces could constitute war crimes,” Crosetto, who summoned the Israeli ambassador to Rome earlier in the day, told a news conference at the premier’s office in Rome.
“These are extremely serious violations of the norms of international law, not justified by any military reason.
“There is no justification in saying that the Israeli armed forces had warned UNIFIL that some bases had to be vacated.
“I told the ambassador to tell the Israeli government that the United Nations and Italy cannot take orders from the Israeli government”.
Crosetto said Italian vehicles and security cameras were hit in the attack, but no Italians were hurt.

  2. There’s plenty of very legitimate reasons to criticize Israel and the IDF, but I 100% understand why they ignore the UN.

The UN says nothing when Israel is attacked for a year and couldn’t even be troubled to pass a resolution condemning Hamas after 10/7.

After close to 20 years of NOT implementing the UN resolution designed to prevent the current war or intervening in any way when it was Hezbollah shooting at Israel, now suddenly they’re “resolute peacekeepers” when Israel asks them to get out of the way so they can do the job UNIFIL couldn’t be troubled to do since 2006.

They literally haven’t enforced any of the UN resolutions there separating the two sides, in the past Hezbollah has even gotten hold of and used the UN’s weapons to attack Israel. Why the heck is the UN even there to begin with at this point?
