Go to a bar for drinks after work. Required to scan a QR code to order (now starting to get the shits). Next up, 3 drinks during “happy hour” = $48.50 (fucking crazy IMO)
Add to that 1.5% “daily surcharge” (whatever the eff that means) + card surcharge (cause how do you pay any other way when you’re required to use an app!). Before I’m prompted to pay via the fan dangle app, I am prompted to add a tip (NOTE…. No human/ service provider interaction has taken place at this point). Then the cheeky fucks have the audacity to calculate the tip based on the total that already includes a “service” and card fee. What the actual?
Am I overreacting, or has hospitality in Australia forgotten how to provide service?

  1. Post online review and report to ACCC about the unavoidable surcharge.

If enough people do it, the shitty businesses will stop this practice.

  2. I get the shits in the USA when the displayed price ends up being different when paying. Looks like the same phenomena is now creeping into our culture..

Leave a negative Google review and never go there again.

I don’t tip, if a place has a QR code to order, I leave.

If they have an automated ‘suggested’ tip, I leave a bad review and speak negatively about the place to everyone I know.

    Fuck these places.

  4. I carry cash on nights out. If a place wont accept my filthy lucre i spend it somewhere that will. Their loss of business.

What bar MAKES you order from a QR code? Answer, none.

Go to the bar and order a drink like anyone else. Don’t ever order from QR codes. It costs the business money and you get zero service.

    Just stop doing it everyone

So is there a weekly charge as well as a daily charge on a Friday??

Glad I don’t drink, but that is beyond bullshit outrageous. It’s just gouging on top of gouging coupled with a fee to facilitate a bit more gouging. And then they’ll be the ones to complain when they look around and find they have an empty bar (or at least not enough patronage to cover the costs).

And is it possible to get a break down showing who or where the tips going? Like does it go to the person who delivers the alcohol to the bar? As they seem to be doing the most amount of work? Or is it just to pad out the shift managers pockets for the night.

If I didn’t know better I’d guess that would be The Bavarian – or you know, one of the *The Bavarians*.

Yes, they’re shit value and do shit-to-acceptable food, though in my experience they’d take my order at the bar if I walked up there. But if you want to report them to the ACCC anyway, cool, because fuck Pacific Concepts.

Personally I will simply walk out of any bar that requires QR codes and online payments. Fuck that.

Of all places (or maybe I’m not cultured) I went to a finer place to eat and I was presented with a bill with a pen which appeared to be so I’d write a tip amount on the printed receipt that had a “Tip: _____ “. I was completely baffled, I had rocked up a $300 bill and I guess it was being implied that I also tip on top? Also $9 for 3-4 glasses of sparkling water is an absolute rort.
