  1. That sentence hardly seems long enough based on the headline, and then you read the article:

    >The 36-year-old was originally charged with murder but pleaded guilty to the downgraded charge in 2021.

    >He also pleaded guilty to robbery in company and four counts of rape, in relation to two separate incidents – including a sexual assault of a 21-year-old woman.

So this sentence is for not only killing a man in a mobility scooter, but *also* rape and robbery. The kicker:

    >Under Queensland legislation Evans was automatically declared a serious violent offender and will have to serve 80 per cent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

14.4 years, which means he’ll be out by the time he’s 50, assuming no time served.

Just here to remind everyone that It’s not the judge that dictates the time in the sentences, they just enforce the laws.
He took a plea deal, and was downgraded to manslaughter with drugs being one of the defenses.

I don’t agree with it either, but It’s not the justice system, it’s the laws created by our politicians. If you’re rightfully upset, message them.

Im going to throw in a cheeky edit.

Once again. It’s not really on the judge to decide on the penalty. If you have an issue with the defense used, or the time given email your member. The judges don’t just run around wild doing what they want despite what some people here think, or they get to go to jail themselves!

I think we all need a horrid reminder of a woman called Jill Meagher, and what happened when they released a serial offender called Adrian Bailey.

How was this not a life sentence? This guy is a psychopath and deserves to rot in a cell for the rest of his pathetic life.

  5. this country is a joke it’s so great

we sentence people like we have some sort of nordic “reformation” prison system, but we don’t

all those charges and he can get parole in 14 years? they let you do anything in queensland

  6. “Plead guilty to a lesser charge” of course he fucking did.

I struggle to see how bashing a man to death while he’s screaming that he is being murdered warrants a plea deal for manslaughter.

    Just disgusting.

  7. Oh yeah, 18 years for bashing someone to death and dumping them in a bin sounds about right. /s
