North Korea has declared to cut off all roads and railways connecting the two Koreas as part of fortification building along the inter-Korean border.
A report by the general staff of the North Korean People’s Army, as carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency(KCNA), said the disconnect and construction of strong defense structures will begin on Wednesday.
The general staff claimed that permanently blocking the border with the unchanging principal enemy state is a self-defensive move aimed at deterring a war and protecting security.
The North Korean military said it had sent a telephone notice about the plans to the U.S. military at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, in a bid to prevent misunderstanding and accidental clashes over the project near the border.
The report added that the latest decision was in response to Seoul and Washington’s joint military exercises and the U.S. deployment of strategic assets on the Korean Peninsula.
