Spot on. Every 17th century portrait you ever see manages to look like either a Stuart chap (eg James, Duke of York; or the Duke of Monmouth, and suchlike throughout the whole range of male sitters) or a Peter Lely court lady à la Barbara Castlemaine. It’s the prominent eyes they all have.
