Afghanistan trade show highlights regional economic ties A large trade exhibition is underway in Afghanistan, highlighting the country’s deepening economic ties with its neighbors amid tough sanctions by Western nations.

About 700 domestic and foreign exhibitors are taking part in the seven-day event that opened on Sunday in the capital Kabul.

Featured items include food and carpets produced in the country.

An Afghan logistics company, which transports goods from China, briefed visitors on projects carried out in cooperation with Chinese partners.

From Iran, 60 companies are taking part. They introduced their products and services such as home appliances and drilling technology for minerals.

Some held negotiations with Afghan firms.

An Afghan businessperson says the economic situation is bad, but many people are coming to the exhibition and holding business talks, so the situation is getting better.

Western countries are keeping tough sanctions on Afghanistan in place, arguing that Taliban oppress women’s rights.
