I think that cyprus is Balkan, it’s got 2 of the biggest Balkan ethnicities in it, it has Balkan corruption, it has the hate between ethnicities, ultranationalism, and of course the culture.
Obviously, it’s not Balkan geographically, neither are the Greek islands etc, but Balkan is more of a state of mind.

Though we are clearly influenced by Balkan and Southern European culture, I think Levantine is the most appropriate to describe us.

As map says we are honorary balkans. We share a lot of their culture because of Turkey and Greece which are cultural balkans.

Based on your comments it’s evident that I’m wrong 😅. I honestly thought that our middle eastern characteristics and the influence of the British colonial era render us different than the other balkan countries.

Can someone please explain why Portugal is an honorary Balkan?

Every single aspect is the same besides driving on the other side. With the good and bad thay the Balkans have.

If Greece is culturally Balkan the Greek Cypriots I M H O are too since we share the same culture, traditions, customs etc. And by culture, traditions, customs, I don’t mean *only* language and religion, but the way we navigate life, the way we think about things around us, the superstitions, the attitude, our common festivities, the society in general, everything. I am not sure if this is the same feeling between Turkey and TC, but I can only assume it’s similar. I hope you won’t start destroying my Karma purely for sharing my opinion.

Greece is not Balkans…. Not in the slightest…

The cities have more of a middle eastern vibe. But the further you go out and up the mountains, the more balkan it gets.
