Article subtitle that wouldn’t fit in the post title:

    >Lawmakers pointed to reports that Chief Justice John Roberts had replaced Alito as the author of an opinion on a case involving a Capitol riot defendant as he faced scrutiny over the “Stop the Steal” flag-flying controversy.

Article isn’t paywalled, Courthouse News is good, go Read the article if interested in the premise.

And I demand answers in Clarence Thomas’ non-removal from a case that involves his wife as a primary proponent of Jan. 6

  3. Is this the most corrupt, anti-American Supreme Court in US history? We all know how awful Taney was over decisions like Dredd Scott, but this court just seems so blatantly treasonous.

  4. Let’s remove him from the opinion because it’s politically damaging to us but let’s not force him to recuse.

Come on Roberts. This either demonstrates you are a political hack and all decisions under your court need to be reviewed or that the current ethics ‘guidelines’ that the Supreme Court has in place are woefully insufficient.

  5. Make no mistake, Roberts is just as conceited & arrogant as Alito, Thomas, & Kavanaugh. They firmly believe in self-oversight with NO outside interference.

They essentially believe the court answers to no one, and if a case comes up that they don’t want to deal with, they can simply refuse to hear it without commenting.

  6. Throw these people in jail and destroy the key. They’re terrorists who want to destroy our country.

  7. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.courthousenews.com/democrats-demand-answers-on-alitos-removal-from-supreme-court-jan-6-opinion/) reduced by 81%. (I’m a bot)

    > WASHINGTON – House Democrats on Friday pressured Chief Justice John Roberts to weigh in on reports that he had removed Justice Samuel Alito as the lead opinion author for a Supreme Court case involving the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, and questioned why the jurist was allowed to participate in the ruling at all.

    > In a letter to the high court's chief, Maryland Representative Jamie Raskin and New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took issue with Roberts' apparent decision to replace Alito on the majority opinion for the case Fischer v. United States, calling it a "Half measure" in the face of swirling questions about the justice's impartiality.

    > In the Senate, Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse's Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal and Transparency Act would force the high court to adopt an enforceable ethics code and would establish an independent review board for ethics complaints against the justices.

Can’t Biden sign an executive order to exile Alito and take his citizenship away?

  9. Congressional hearing on Opus Dei. Let’s see the member list.

    (Apparently that’s Alito’s schtick.)

  10. > “The notion that individual Justices can decide for themselves whether their own conduct violates the Constitution, federal law or the court’s code of conduct is untenable in our republic and clearly violates the fundamental and original principle of due process that ‘no man can be a judge in his own case,’” the lawmakers said.

Still, Clarence Thomas has not been removed or recused himself. No conflict of interest due to his wife’s actions related to January 6?!

What a court we have now. Dems may demand answers but they and the US will not get them. The current conservative majority on the court think that they (and are?) above it all.

If no man can be a judge in his own case, how does this self-pardoning bullshit work?

Roberts probably saw Alito’s draft opinion, saw that it was much more far reaching; the President *is* above the law, without exception. Any action a President takes, official or personal, is immune from prosecution.

  13. Well guess what…… The Supreme Court does not answer to the Democrats or Republicans. Constitutionally, they are independent from the other government branches.

So this group of Democrats can pick up their toys, go home and throw a tantrum

Roberts will not respond and nothing will happen because he knows SCOTUS is untouchable.

Why? This happened right after America learned about Alito’s flag telegraphing controversy, which rightly led to questions about his capacity to make nonpartisan legal determinations.

    * Why didn’t Roberts get Alito to recuse himself based on that knowledge?

    * Why didn’t he get the three appointed by Trump to recuse based on their obvious conflict of interest?

    * Why didn’t he get Thomas to recuse for his conflicts of interest?

    * Why did Roberts allow Thomas’s concurrent opinion which was used by Aileen Canon to delay Trump’s espionage case?

    * Why didn’t Roberts recuse himself based on his February memos that showed partisan deference towards Trump?

    * Why did all six “conservative” justices ignore the “facts of the now”?

    * Why did they ignore the plain text of the constitution that disqualifies Trump from federal office with their opinion and instead amend the constitution with official/unofficial language which is Congresses job?

    * Why did Roberts delay taking up the question in December?

    * Why was the courts opinion delayed to the very last possible minute?

Roberts has proven himself to be a partisan hack and his “Federalist Koch Industries Society Banana Republic Court” will forever be remembered in infamy.

  16. We know it’s a corrupt court, why are they still making decisions that ruin our lives?
