> The diplomat said Chinese President Xi Jinping has escalated regional tensions since former President Donald Trump left office, but he stopped short of blaming the Biden administration for emboldening China.
Saying “but he stopped short of blaming the Biden administration for emboldening China” when he didn’t say anything about Biden emboldening China is literally just putting words in his mouth. I was almost ready to give Fox kudos for writing up a fairly reasonable news article until I saw that.

Is this his way to saying he wants Trump to win?

The CCP has never governed Taiwan so technically China would become part of Taiwan. Not the other way around. Put that to a vote. 🇹🇼

Absolutely detest members of parliament saying their people are ready to fight when they know it’s not them or their family who will do any of the fighting. Same thing happened with ukraine when many men tried to flee the country but were forcefully taken by the army and sent to die
Reality is a lot of men would rather just deal with a new governing body than being sent to a guaranteed death, despite what many on reddit who fetishize gore videos seem to think
Before war breaks out its so easy for people to say they are willing to fight but once the war starts and its clear that people are just being sent to die the attitude changes swiftly

Spoke to a Chinese colleague at work (he is in Europe safe and free). I asked him about the conflict. His only answer are “we are the same people and should be one nation”. I asked why would you force 20 million people who doesn’t want to be united with China, to unite?
No answer.

Qing Dynasty from Imperial China permanently gave sovereignty of Taiwan to the Empire of Japan.
Taiwan was still under Japan when the Chinese Civil War resumed after WW2 where the Kuomintang of the RoC “invaded” the island when CCP took over mainland and found PRC. Japan only formally announced they gave up sovereignty of Taiwan in the 1950s, well after PRC is found. However, Japan did not mention who will have sovereignty of Taiwan, not once they said it will be returned to China, not even the word China was ever mentioned. The international nations never agreed upon who has legal sovereignty over Taiwan, and no, it was also not about which China, it was just who.
As time goes on, it is subtly agreed upon whatever government is running Taiwan today has sovereignty over the island, meaning whoever is living on that island has sovereignty. It is just that, the nations once again never agreed upon the exactly identity of this “new” government.
