  1. North Korea reacted with a ‘strong-to-strong’ statement by emphasizing their own status of a nation possessing nuclear weapons in response to President Yoon Seok-Yeol’s warnings during his commemorative speech for Armed Forces Day that, should North Korea use nuclear weapons, that day will be ‘the annihilation of [the North Korean] regime’. President of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong Un made threats by warning that ‘if South Korea and America were to attempt to impede on North Korea’s sovereignty, [we] will utilize all offensive measures including nuclear weapons’.

According to Korea Central News Agency on the 4th, Kim stated that ‘Puppet Yoon Seok-Yeol continues to fail to make it out of his anti-republican obsessions, and he read down his speech made up of lavish reactive wills that originate from a victim mentality against our republic during an event called a commemorative ceremony’, during his visit to Korea People’s Army Special Operation Force training camp in the western zone on the 2nd.

He criticized Yoon by stating that Yoon ‘ranted with incoherent speeches about the nuclear-based character of the Korea-American alliance and made bluffs about the disciplined and overwhelming reactions of the alliance, or the annihilation of the regime, all the while showing his warmongering traits without any filters’.

Kim continued his condemnation, ‘the puppet Yoon talked about overwhelming reactions at the face of a nuclear-possessory nation, which makes a show that makes people suspect whether he is a person who is incomplete in some faculties.’

It had been two years since Kim criticized Yoon by name, the last such case being in July 2022 during his speech for the so-called Victory Day. Kim had said in his unhinged speech, while calling Yoon by his name without the position, that ‘[I] remember precisely the absurd words and vile acts Yoon Seok-Yeol had spoken and done on multiple occasions before and after his inauguration.’

North Korea’s reactions on the 2nd is analyzed to be another declaration that they do not want to give up on nuclear weapons.

Kim stated that ‘no threatening speech, action, conspiracy or attempt from the enemy were able stop our military might and will never be able to take away our nukes’, and that ‘we have acquired irreversibly the absolute power as a nuclear power and the system and abilities to use those weapons by overcoming long and painful challenges’.

He continued with declarations that ‘should the enemies under a state of extreme stubbornness and recklessness ignore our continued warnings and take another step in their excessive belief in the South Korean-American alliance and conspire to use military power that invades our sovereignty, we will mercilessly use all of our offensive powers in hands, nuclear weapons included’.

And he made threats that ‘wishing for luck and survival against in a military clash against a country possessing nuclear weapons is a useless act in vain’, and that ‘if such an event were to happen, the existence of Seoul and the Republic of Korea shall be naught but impossible’.
