Palestinian non-violent activist receives Right Livelihood Award A Palestinian human rights activist, Issa Amro, has been honored with a Right Livelihood Award, widely known as the Alternative Nobel Prize.

Amro, his group and the other laureates were announced on Thursday. A Swedish foundation give the annual award to people who are committed to solving global problems, including environmental and human rights issues.

Amro, who is 44 years old, is from Hebron in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The group he founded in 2007 has peacefully resisted the Israeli occupation and promoted Palestinian people’s rights. They have documented human rights violations by the Israeli military and Jewish settlers, and organized protests.

Amro said receiving the award makes him feel happy. He added that it motivates him to continue his hard work to defend the Palestinian people’s right to live with freedom, justice and equality in their land.

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg received the Right Livelihood Award in 2019.
