British King Charles appointed Tuzla woman, prof. Mirela Delibegović, for the first woman state chair of physiology at the University of Aberdeen.

This was announced on his Facebook profile by a scientist from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Edhem Čustović.

“Professor Mirela Delibegović will follow in the footsteps of insulin pioneer and Nobel Prize winner JJR Macleod, who held this position, assigned by the monarch, from 1928 to 1935. Delibegovic leads research on understanding the causes of insulin resistance – when the body’s cells do not respond properly to produced or injected insulin, leading to increased blood sugar levels – and finding ways to delay or even reverse these conditions. These positions are incredibly prestigious and established in disciplines that are considered fundamental and for which there is an ongoing and significant need. Professor Delibegovic now holds one of only two physiology posts in the UK. While the discovery of insulin by Macleod’s research team in Toronto provided a life-saving treatment for people with type 1 diabetes, Professor Delibegovic’s work has the potential to transform the treatment of people living with type 2 diabetes or who are at risk of developing diabetes.

She heads the Center for Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetes in Aberdeen, which researches insulin resistance and how diabetes, heart disease, aging and Alzheimer’s are intertwined,” wrote Čustović.

U svakom slučaju joj želim sreću i uspešan naučni rad. Bravo! 🙂
