Absolute nonsense to compare sport funding with domestic violence funding. Gary should be ashamed of himself for putting this tripe out there.
Whether €7.9m is enough for these initiatives bears no relation to what horse racing, or any other line-item, gets in funding.

This can’t be right? Just the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre alone gets over 7 million of government funding.
That’s without considering the other rape crisis centres, Women’s Aid, Aoibhneas, the NWC.

Can horse and greyhound racing not survive on their own without state subsidies? Why are these sports which are, let’s be honest, pretty much only for gambling getting nearly a hundred million in subsidies? What social benefit does the taxpayer gain from this?
Edit. Misread the image as 991 million instead of 99.1 million

DGSBV is increased to 70M as per the budget summary on gov.ie
Let’s be honest: the opposition is not going to put the budget in a good light no matter what.

Not saying it’s right but Horse racing alone is worth an estimated €2.5 Billion a year to our economy and employs over 30,000…

4.1m for horsey and doggo racing, 7.9m for SGBV supports. Twice as much prioritisation, in political terms.

I imagine that’s 7.9 million under some strict definition of ‘initiatives’. Pretty dishonest from Gannon.
