I grew up outside Falkenberg, and used to go to the “automobile” with the mop to skate – not because it was good, it was terrible for beginners – but I always felt there was something mysterious about the place.
During the pandemic (lived in Lillehammer/Oslo at the time) I went home for a while and had nothing to do, so I went up and filmed a bit of the park. It must have been 2020. When I googled around a bit, I understood that the place was an old amusement park, with a casino, go-kart, terrarium, cross track, restaurant, etc.
I didn’t have much for me, so I called around to people in the area and did some interviews, and scraped together some archival material from older skaters I knew. On one occasion I met the owner of the land who told me that they were going to demolish the skate park and build villas, so I thought I would make a short film about the place, as a small memory.
In 2022, I sent in a short film pitch to Svt, and wondered if they wanted it – and after going back and forth a bit between different people, I got a meeting at K-Special, who were interested. After the meeting, I understood that their films must be 58 minutes, which is quite a big difference to my 15 minutes.
Since I didn’t have much money to make the film, I did everything myself, photo/sound/cut/grade/sound mix. But I got a budget for a researcher who worked for Svt – and she started digging more into all the anecdotes about the place – while I drove around in the car and filmed.
Anyway, March 2024 the film was finished, never thought it would become anything in the first place, and I guess I went with the attitude of trying to make a film about a story that is so small that it can be interesting. I tried to do the best with what I could, even though it was hard to do everything yourself when you didn’t know much at first.
It would have been fun to hear your thoughts on the film, and if you have any tips on what documentaries you would like to see that take place in Sweden?

Ska kolla efter jobbet! Låter najs, som när Jonas Strandberg gjorde en dokumentär om ”det blev ingen skiva”!
Fett! Jag har inte stått på en bräda på närmre 15 år, men intresset finns alltid med mig i bakhuvudet. Ska försöka komma ihåg att se denna under veckan!
Skejtat där flera gånger för typ 13-15 år sen. Var lite klurigt med hårda hjul. Tog en kort longboard med mjuka hjul, typ 80a, så kunde man åka hur länge som helst. Supermysigt att sitta där å röka lite gräs i det fina vädret. Synd att den ska försvinna.

Jag såg dokumentären för någon vecka sedan och tyckte mycket om den! Jag tycker att den kändes ganska lagom med sin längd och det blev som ett fint exempel på hur mycket historia det finns kring någonting som vid första anblick kan verka vara ett stort ingenting.
Utöver att någon gång ha testat att stå på en bräda i tioårsåldern så har jag väldigt lite koppling till hela skejtkulturen, men just därför så tyckte jag att filmen var en väldigt fin inblick i delar av den världen. Tror säkert att den passar bra för skejtfans också, men även för en “utomstående” så var det ett mycket fint projekt!
