  1. Typical NPD move – their brain can say “see I was right” no matter which way it goes.

Not trying to be pessimistic but I’m bracing for Vance to edge out a win in this debate.

There is no way that a Yale educated lawyer that is 38 years younger than Trump and saw Trump get beaten like a gong is going to walk into that debate anything other than overprepared.

But then again, Shady Vance has been making a very strong argument that he is a Democratic double agent since the day he was selected as VP so I could be wrong.

They’re planning another stochastic terrorist attack to distract from the debate.

  4. Vance can’t discuss policy; governing for the people is anathema for Republicans, and they don’t want anyone to know about Project 2025. He’s going to resort to lies, name calling, and repeatedly saying “China,” as if Walz works for the PRC.

That’s all he has, and in the coming days the media will amplify these red herrings instead of focusing on substance.

I guess even “daddy” Trump doesn’t have confident in his “baby boy”.

JD Vance is going to be the fall guy for why Trump loses the election. Trump will throw him under the bus so fast and MAGA will go bananas on JD. Bet me.

  7. Remember, Walz can be an attack dog, he is the VP, not the POTUS candidate. In fact, VPs DO NOT MATTER (well, until they do).
So Walz can call VD Vance a lier, and can call out woman that have died because of the abortion ban. He can call Trump a brain dead old shit head that lies, and that’s ok. KH, she’s the POTUS, she needs to be calm, maybe just snicker.
Walz, do not be a docile fucking mouse. East VD’s soul, if he has one.

  8. As a life long Minnesotan I’m pulling for Walz 100%. Governing is Tim Walz strong suit, not necessarily campaigning, but he’s definitely solid.

Tomorrow Trump will say “Everybody is saying that JD won the debate by a huge margin. 95%, 87%, 80%. It was tremendous win in polling.”

  10. I guess when you’re a massive loser yourself it’s easy to spot the signs in someone else

  11. Didn’t Vance go to Yale law school? He’s not dumb and he may very well be capable of holding his own in a debate. I think people are mistaking his weird social awkwardness for stupidity and I’m worried that this low bar is going to help them spin his performance into a win.

  12. I miss the days when debates weren’t so hyper-focused on who won or who lost, but instead allowed for the voters to learn about the candidates positions and preferred polices.

If that happens, then the voters win, which is what should be the goal, IMO.

  13. Yes and no. Trump still has a reasonable chance of winning somehow (and had a much bigger chance back in July) and being his VP now has a more than decent chance of being president already in the next few years (either through ill health, prison or death). It was quite a sensible gamble back then but circumstances turned it awful.

Pence has no such excuse though, Mother advised him poorly

  14. Is Vance going to be fact checked on anything or will every question focus solely on Walz having to justify teaching in China and prove he’s not a Communist.

My fear is that we’re all severely underestimating JD. He doesn’t need to outright win, just enough soundbites and red meat to get the viral machine going.

And it’s that same viral machine that makes debates matter more than ever, even VP debates. I’m honestly more nervous about this one than Harris/Trump.

Walz has a high bar and JD has a negative bar—JD has a lot to prove and he only has to not be an idiot. If he’ pulls that off, MAGA will adore him and start feeling better about their chances again.

Walz has to walk a tricky line to make JD look like a dangerous moron while being charismatic and in control, similar to Harris. Unlike Harris, his opponent is a little more controlled and less likely to fall into traps like Trump did.

I just hope the Harris team is not taking anything for granted. They’ve been crushing it so far, so let’s hope they prepping Walz in every possible scenario.

It’s odd how we treat debates like sports events, waiting to see who “wins” as if a single night’s performance defines leadership. If we’re picking a VP based on debating skills, shouldn’t we be more focused on actual policies than a made-for-TV showdown? Does a great debate really make someone fit to lead?

  17. After Vance loses the debate I bet their strategy will be to claim that Tim Walz is also mentally challenged.

  18. BuckyJackson36 on

I’m not sure it will be an easy debate for Walz. The rules of engagement will be critical. Vance will interrupt constantly. And when he’s not doing that, he’ll listen to the question then answer a question that was never asked making sure he can include as many falsehoods as possible. Vance may be a lightweight on policy, but he’s a rabid pit bull on bullshit.

  19. Vance is going to do better than Trump (not a big deal, tbh) but he’s still gonna get eviscerated by Tim Walz!

  20. I’m not sure how this matters. Trump is such a narcissist he’d believe Vance had to lose tonight because there is no way Vance could win a debate when Trump lost his.

  21. KokopelliOnABike on

I’m not sure where I can put my totally bonkers conspiracy theory about Vance and if they win in a few weeks so here goes.

If, gods help us, Trump does win this election, he will be very very short lived as President in that Vance and his backers will Amendment 25 him due to, <insert any reason here>. Thus elevating Vance to POTUS and them finding a loyalist to backfill the VP slot. They probably already have one picked out.

At this point Trump is just a tired old horse they are trying to win with. If they win, then they need a coherent loyalists to implement 2025.

Am I crazy for thinking this?

  22. Curiouso_Giorgio on

JD will do better than he did. JD is a conniving asshole, but he isn’t brain dead.

And Walz himself admits he isn’t a good debater, this isn’t him being humble, he said it to Harris when she was screening VP candidates in his self evaluation.

  23. I’m nervous honestly. This is right in Vance’s wheelhouse and not at all in Walz’s. Walz needs to remain calm and state up front that you’re going to hear a lot of lies and he’s not going to be able to fact check all of them.
