Taiwan President Lai Ching-te has congratulated Ishiba Shigeru on being elected as Japan’s new prime minister.
Lai posted a message to Ishiba and a photo on social media on Tuesday. The photo shows the two shaking hands when Ishiba visited Taiwan.
In the message, Lai says Taiwan and Japan are staunch partners that help each other. He also says he hopes they will continue deepening their partnership and following a path of democracy together.
