I used to argue with my parents with whatever rage bait they heard on Fairchild. Then one day I just stopped caring, if our gov allows these things to broadcast then my parents can believe whatever they want.

If you don’t wanna be brainwashed, read both sides of the argument and decide for your self

    >*OTTAWA, Canada — Beijing’s takeover of Chinese-language media in Canada began with Ottawa’s multicultural broadcasting policies of the 1980s and became strikingly apparent during the Tiananmen Square massacre, when agents of the Chinese Consulate visited community broadcasters to ensure it wasn’t reported that students had died, the Hogue Commission heard Tuesday.*

  4. It is true. All of it. All Chinese language media, from Fairchild to your local free Chinese newsletter is basically parroting CCP narratives or views sympathetic to the PRC government.

Chinese history is much more nuanced than what most Westerners understand; it’s not just a matter of “good” versus “bad.” Without that context, most analyses will consider Chinese-language media to be biased. Even the Taiwanese and Chinese agree on many points regarding East Asia, neighbors, and territorial disputes, but you will not hear much about such agreement in Western media.

I doubt the Chinese government is actively influencing the media—there’s really no need when boomers have benefited significantly from China’s rise. They remember the days when China was weak and poor, reflecting on the last 200 years of history, and they believe today that the government is doing things correctly.

  6. People who are speaking Mandarin and reading Chinese news in Canada probably don’t care too much about this country to begin with.

And most English-language media here is dominated by the US department of defence.

I am a Chinese Canadian and can read and write in Chinese. I don’t read Chinese language media except when it is about Chinese government policy for this reason. If I am trying to get information about Canada or the US, I go straight to mainstream English-language media (NPR, BBC, CBC, etc…). In fact, you are more likely to read misinformation or even disinformation if you are reading Chinese language sites because of CCP influence.
