Lufthansa is the dominant airline at Fraport AG’s Frankfurt and Munich Airport International, but what about at Germany’s other top 15 airports? Analysis by AIR SERVICE ONE using Cirium schedules data for August 2024 reveals that the top 5 airlines across all German airports were Lufthansa, Eurowings, Ryanair, Condor Flugdienst GmbH and SunExpress. The market share for these carriers at each airport is shown in the graph above.
At three airports these five carriers combined have less than half the seats. In BER – Berlin Brandenburg Airport, easyJet is the second biggest carrier with 15% of seats. At Hannover Airport locally based TUI Airways is the top carrier with 20% of seats, while in Dortmund Airport Wizz Air is the leading airline with almost 60% of seat capacity.
Apart from at Frankfurt and Munich, Lufthansa only has more than 15% of seats at Bremen Airport Service GmbH. For single airline domination look no further than Ryanair at Airport Weeze and Flughafen Frankfurt -Hahn Gmbh.
