China’s government predicts that travelers will make a total of over 1.9 billion trips during the National Day holiday that begins on Tuesday. This means that the per-day average for this year’s holiday period is expected to be nearly 20 percent higher than it was in the pre-COVID pandemic year of 2019.

Chinese travel site Ctrip has listed Japan as the most popular destination for Chinese tourists, followed by Thailand and South Korea.

The Japanese embassy in Beijing is calling on Japanese nationals in China to take steps to ensure their safety during the period, which comes after the fatal stabbing of a Japanese schoolboy in Shenzhen weeks ago.

The Chinese embassy in Tokyo has issued a similar warning to Chinese people who plan to visit Japan.

A Chinese man who plans to go on a trip to Osaka with his 2-year-old child says he has no qualms about their safety in Japan, since he has visited the country many times. The man says he wants to enjoy spending their time together traveling in Japan.
