Lavrov says Russia is nuclear power, warns against Western support for Ukraine Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stressed that Russia is a nuclear power and warned against the continued military support of the United States and European countries to Ukraine.

Lavrov gave a speech at the UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday. His remark referred to Western countries’ continued provision of military assistance to Ukraine to help it fight Russia’s invasion.

He accused the West of trying to deliver a blow to Russia through Ukraine.

He went on to say that he would not talk about the senselessness and danger of the very idea of trying to fight to victory with a nuclear power, which is what Russia is.

In Ukraine, medical facilities were attacked by Russian drones in the northern region of Sumy on Saturday. The Ukrainian interior ministry said nine people were killed and 10 others were injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a social media post that Russia is targeting hospitals and other civilian infrastructure. He said: “Only strength can force Russia into peace. Peace through strength is the only right way.”
