  1. Like BAM continuing to get massive state contracts despite holding the country to ransom over the new Children’s Hospital.

The reality is Fine Gael and Fianna Fail are happy to oblige corruption as long as their own palms are greased in the long run.

If I had my way all golf clubs would be made into public parks, with a couple of playing fields on each one. (Not the noxious and poisoned “all-weather pitches”, which are just a cancer cause waiting to be revealed, proper grass fields.)

How are we giving grants to private clubs which charge high fees?
If it was a council golf course, which is open to the public, then fair enough.
But not a club where “Development fee” of 4 grand has to be paid to join

  4. No money should be handed over till the investigation is finished. I would also question the awarding money to alot of these clubs in the first place. Election incoming

  5. I’ll never manage to regard golf as a sport. To me it’ll always be a setup for second division Rotarian-cum-Mason chumminess with the odd lucrative deal or valuable introduction guaranteed by the nineteenth hole. (Hope this club is overrun with scowling urban youths on electric scooters demanding access. *evil cackle*)

  6. makes sense , each arm of the government is independent of each other , if they werent , you have the same people here complaining

  7. In the meantime my daughter’s gymnastics club, which takes top places in national and international competitions cannot afford heating or new speakers for music routines. All coaches are working their day jobs to survive.

Gymnastics Ireland meantime is raising membership and competition prices (130€ per non adult athlete per attendance).

So I’m really happy that dog racing is getting millions per year, half a billion will go towards badminton and cycling, but why not support sport that Ireland is getting really good at?

  8. It’s hilarious that when golf is mentioned on this sub, there are always a few commenters that emerge with their hatred of the game that we know has nothing to do with the sport itself.

  9. You need to look for the connections, what national and local politicians are lobbying behind the scenes for the golf club. It’s all wheels within wheels.
