Nice story to feed the outraged
It’s based on the limits of the scheme, in order to afford the % LTV allowed people have to earn far more and can’t use a big deposit even if they saved it themselves.
It’s mad the help to buy scheme doesn’t apply to renovations. I bought an old house to fix up but can’t avail, but if I was building a house from scratch or a new turn key no problem 😕
You’d think getting old housing stock back in use would be a priority
The scheme is a giant scam that does nothing but drive prices up.
I’d say 90% of people I know who used it didn’t need it and viewed it as a bonus.
Ok so I live in England so it may be different here, but essentially in the uk help to buy only works if you are a couple struggling to save a deposit. My ex and his partner have a help to buy I do not. My ex owns a 5 bedroom house, and it’s huge. I own a tiny 2 and a bit bed. His house is valued at around £250000 mine was £130000. I paid more deposit than he did. I did look at help to buy myself as well. I could have bought a similar sized property to his. But it would cost me about £300 a month more than my current mortgage and that is just not doable on one income unless you have a very well paid job. But I suppose two incomes regardless of any schemes would make a big difference.
Capped at 500,000 for a new build. Effectively doesn’t exist in Dublin where most people live.
Is this because HTB only applies to new builds?
New houses are often more expensive, and as a result, the people buying them tend to be higher earners?
