Okay Leo, how about you answer for the National Children’s Hospital first. Or how you made a balls of housing or how homelessness got worse under your tenure. Or how people are more divided in Ireland now and are out rioting or how the youth are allowed run around feral. Or how about Ireland being a tax haven for very rich corporations. Or how bad our cities are now, etc, etc….

  2. They can make all the pledges they want but unless they make the Republic more attractive, I don’t think unification will every happen. Our health and housing crisis is one of the major factors that get in the way of unification.

  3. SF calls for Leo to back this for ages.

Leo backs it, SF people find reasons not to welcome it.

    Quelle surprise.

This is great, but would have been far more forceful if he’d done it as Taoiseach. Why did he wait until he was no longer Taoiseach or leader of his party to say this?

Oh there’s a job in Ireland with enough political power that would help him call on all parties to support unity. What’s the word I’m searching for, sounds like Play Shocked, Bay checked, something like that?

Huh? The guy who just walked off the job on a Tuesday? He interrupted his beach holiday to talk to the plebs again?

    FOH

  7. Mary Lou made speeches about Irish reunification recently at some party conferences, preparing for a border poll is a bit pointless as there is no real appetite for it among the majority of people in Northern Ireland. There are so many issues that need attention now that preparing for a massive change like that feels like a waste of political headspace.

At the time I thought SF were trying to remind its voters to stick together as it lost support recently, I thought it was kinda disingenuous of SF to try start discussions around the issue of border polls and reunification. It is a really long term project.

I find it kinda pathetic of Leo to even bring it up, it feels like a click bait political topic. But here I am responding to it as well.

I think there can be near-full Irish Unity on wanting Varadkar to permanently fuck off out of politics.

  9. He should start a reunification political party. Maybe a catchy slogan…. our day will be here soon

It’s kind of terrible the way he focuses on the fluffy stuff, rather than the hard economic reality that it would make better sense for all of use to have an all-Ireland economy. Harder on the Republic at first, and better for Northern Ireland, but soon better for both. Assuming the world economy doesn’t do anything completely crazy, of course.
