Ohtani ties Ichiro's record of 56 stolen bases for Japanese MLB player In Major League Baseball, Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Dodgers stole his 56th base, tying Suzuki Ichiro’s record for most steals in a season by a Japanese MLB player.

Ohtani’s record-tying steal from first to second base came in the 6th inning after his go-ahead RBI made the score 4-3 for the Dodgers in a game against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. It was Ohtani’s first steal in two games.

Suzuki set the record in 2001 while playing for the Seattle Mariners.

The division-leading Dodgers went on to beat the second-place Padres 4-3 in Wednesday’s game. If the Dodgers beat the Padres on Thursday, they will clinch the division title for the third straight year.
