Does the Tanaiste genuinely not have a clue what is going on?
He thinks this is ridiculous? Who signed off on it so?
Listen to his interviews recently, the one on Matt Cooper in particular when he was asked why more outreach? (I think is the word) medical centres not been built despite being announced. His repsonse was along the lines of ‘well i told the HSE thye have land to build it here to they should get started’. It hasnt been started.
The RTE interview about how people are wrong about us looking os poor for such a wealthy country all the while saying basically just look at the balance sheets.
And yet no one is ever responsible, and no actions are ever taken. I’m a bit sick of the Taoiseach and Tanaiste talking about how annoyed they are, as if they are some sort of independent observer. If no one else is responsible, the buck stops with them.

At the very least, it’s somewhat architecturally significant. Unlike the bike sheds.

I was expecting the control room from Minority Report the way this was being defended in the last thread. Lmao.

Isn’t it nice to have the Irish Times always on call, readily available to spread your bullshit around without calling you out on it? Fucking disgrace of a paper.

So long as we have an unsackable civil service things like this will continue to happen no matter who’s watch it is.

They can’t build a bike shed – how can they be expected to build 50,000 houses a year

Looks like they installed one of those terrorist-proof vehicle stoppers as well that spring up fast – these surely must be very expensive and niche?

In the large scheme of things, 300K here and 1.4M there is a drop in the ocean for government expenditure. However, when you take all of these examples in totality, they do perfectly illustrate how our government has completey lost the ability to control costs in the projects they undertake. There are no expertise, no controls, and no accountability, they just sign off on the expense based on whatever they’re told it will cost.

this is the worst form of populism from the Tánaiste – he knows that the Taoiseach equivocated on the issue when questioned, so he went in with both barrells so as to be more in tune with the public outrage and get a lift on FG in pre-election season
Martin surely knows that most of the spend was on security issues – which, stop me if I’m wrong, but a few months after a far-right mob tried to break into LH, then security kind of a big deal – so this is just deeply cynical pearl-clutching from him

Jesus wept, just think of the waste across the public sector.

I always find it madness that tax payer money is squandered like this. The Revenue in this country are hyper competent at collecting the taxes and the passport office for giving out passports quickly.I can’t understand why the same efficiency is not used across other departments especially considering its taxs payer money.

I may be looking at this too in depth but from reading the article I would question the copper roof and how necessary that is.
The word used in the article is that the hut is beautiful I mean I understand Leinster House is a historic building and it would be inappropriate to stick an eyesore in front of it but I would imagine that a security hut should align more closely with functional as opposed to beautiful. That roof almost looks like a bloody public art piece, how much expense did this add.
