>Shoppers who buy their groceries from discount chain Aldi instead of the country’s dominant supermarkets Coles and Woolworths save at least $15 on a basket of essential items, according to Choice.
>
>The findings, part of a government-backed quarterly price comparison, comes as the competition regulator pursues Coles and Woolworths over allegations they misled shoppers by offering “illusory” discounts on hundreds of supermarket products.
>
>The price differential between Aldi and the two majors remained above 25%, according to the second quarterly undercover shopping survey, conducted in June.
>
>When supermarket specials are included in the analysis of 14 common groceries – including apples, sliced bread, flour, tinned tomatoes, cheese and milk – the gap narrows slightly to about 23%.
Details about the basket:
>The Aldi basket was priced at $50.79, which was slightly cheaper than the March result.
>
>An equivalent Coles basket costs $66.22, which includes specials such as discounted teabags that helped price its basket lower than rival Woolworths during the recent survey.
>
>The cost was $68.37 at Woolworths and $78.95 at IGA.

Isn’t that the point of a budget supermarket.

I’m shocked. That choice subscription coming in real handy for breakthroughs like this.

I find their fresh fruit and veg is also good quality
Better than the fresh food market I used to go to when I got dry staples from Coles
Now I do 90% shopping at aldi and get a few random veg aldi don’t have at the fresh market
Feels kinda bad to use a supermarket instead of a independent store but idgaf, i would if the independent store would source better quality fruit and not just mark any mandarin as super sweet / juicy – they need to source better.

Aldi produce is consistently good
Fresh fruit yes
Packaged food, too high in salt and/or sugar
