ISTANBUL – The verdicts were announced in the case regarding the sexual abuse of Yusuf Ziya Gümüşel’s daughter HKG by “marrying her through an imam marriage” when she was 6 years old, at the Hiranur Foundation affiliated with the İsmailağa Community.

Kadir Isekli received a 21-year sentence for sexual abuse and a 15-year sentence for serial sexual assault. Yusuf Ziya Gümüşel received an 18-year, 9-month sentence for accessory to sexual abuse.

It was decided to arrest HKG’s mother. The file regarding the mother was separated from this case.

The hearing at the Anatolian 2nd High Criminal Court was closed to the press. Before the trial, the Left Feminist Movement held a press conference at the Anatolian Courthouse.

‘OUR STRUGGLE’

Seval Keleş, who read the statement on behalf of the Left Feminist Movement, which followed all the hearings, said that they woke up to news of femicides and child abuse every day. Keleş added the following to her statement: “The reactionary AKP government has declared war on all our acquired rights. It has woven the country like a web of sects. The sects that have infiltrated every area have become hell for women and children. Just like HKG. From the age of 6 onwards "Holy Family" “She was systematically abused within the structure called ‘Islamic State’. But she did not surrender to this darkness. She demanded an account of her life from the cult order. We also became a part of HKG’s struggle. Because her struggle is the struggle of all the children and women whose lives were stolen. It is the struggle of all of us.”

‘THE WAY FOR ABUSE WAS PAVED WITH REWARD-LIKE PUNISHMENTS’

Keleş added that they expect a deterrent decision to be made today: “Until now, the way for abuse has been paved with punishments such as rewards. Men have not refrained from using violence and subjecting women to abuse with the self-confidence that ‘nothing will happen to me anyway’. Enough with your impunity policies.”
