  1. People drunk on the streets of Temple Bar, I have never heard of the likes. What has the world come to?

  2. Gardai go harder on arty students having a party than they do fascist scumbags going up and down the country burning down buildings.

  3. Something tells me those arrested were not out celebrating culture night. I would hazard a guess they’ve never heard of it.

There was a band performance in Patrick Street in Cork City, and there was a man being appropriate shouting and being a nuisance for a while. He then attacked the female performer. This was at around 6:30pm

    Gardai came then.

It was horrible for the performers and for any families around too, no young child should be seeing this.

I was surprised that it wasn’t mentioned anywhere.

  5. I’ve been searching through instagram and twitter for the videos referred to. There appear to be four. The first is of a Garda going back to a riot van with people accusing him of telling someone to go back to Africa. There’s no actual footage of the incident itself and it’s not related to the arrests.

The other three are of 1) Gardaí arresting a white guy 2) Gardaí restraining white guy on the ground while other Gardaí push back the crowd 3) Two Gardaí telling people to move back away from the arrest. The first video appears to be getting removed, likely because it shows a white guy getting arrested and people trying to interfere. The accusation of racism appears solely based on the fact it happened during a Culture Night block party.

I’m open to correction on that stuff but that’s what I could find.

  6. >engagement this weekend betweenAn Garda Síochána and various representative groups who fear a difference in policing for black communities, compared with other groups.

Wow this sentence needs a lot of unpacking.

First one, there are black *communities*?

Second, these representative groups are making a distinction between ‘black’, though in the context I don’t entirely know what that means, and ‘other’ which I assume covers all other demographics, including minorities.

I’m sorry, it just sounds like a news article from the United States. Do we have policing issues in Irish Louisiana?

  7. [Brain Gremlin ](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0709704/?ref_=tt_ch): Now, was that civilized? No, clearly not. Fun, but in no sense civilized. Now, bear in mind, none of us has been in New York before. There are the Broadway shows – we’ll have to find out how to get tickets. There’s also a lot of street crime, but I believe we can watch that for free….

  8. Gardai say “There was a risk of someone getting hurt” then proceed to assault and pepper spray people who were just having a good time in Temple Bar of all places. ffs.

There would have been no issue here had the Gardai not caused it.

The baseless narrative of ‘over-policing black communities’ in Ireland is being propped up by the ‘black_andirish’ Instagram account which loves to feature perpetually offended race hustlers like Ebun Joseph and tries to draw parallels with George Floyd’s killing and Irish policing.

So yeah – I smell BS.

  10. I am not shocked I was in town a bit of a rough element about, I was standing at a little event opposite the Olympia (dance thing with Palestinian music) some beggar/drug addict literally walked up open the jar with donations, put in a coin…grabbed notes and legged it.

  11. Guards when they see a fascist scumbag assaulting a reporter right in front of them: 😴

Guards when some artys students have a block party and had a few too many drinks: 😡😡😡

  12. Gardaí treat students like they should treat the wannabe fascists.

Any hint of one crossing the line and they come down hard.

Soft touch and escorts into the library to let them harass staff for the other crowd though.

Think we could definitely do with the approach being reversed, even if I am one of those who genuinely despises being near a crowd of drunk students partying
