“Masterplan development underway, drawing insights from community input and technical assessments.

A number of options were considered and we identified two shortlisted masterplan options:

Option 1 – a tunnel with targeted surface upgrades to the existing motorway
Option 2 – upgrade and widening of the existing motorway and a new arterial road.
Community consultation on these masterplan options will occur in early to mid-2025.

Expected completion of the masterplan is 2025.”

  1. Well, pretty obviously every Tom, Dick and Harry who lives in the area will want the tunnel, and everyone else will want the freeway upgrade.

I live in the area. Widen the freeway but make the new lanes bus only. Once each way. Give people a reason to take the bus

  3. That local arterial road looks stupid as fuck, just going to bulldoze the whole area if they don’t get what they want

Both are terrible options, wasting billions to just further entrench car dependency. Like the Gympie Road tunnel, the money should be redirected into new railway lines to serve these areas with high quality public transport instead.

  5. Fuck me dead. Option 2 is the most uninspiring thing they could have possibly put forward.

Moggill road is already one of the slowest roads in Brisbane and they want to put more cars on it?

  6. I think this infographic shows too little information about the stuff already there. Maybe if it was overlaid on google maps it would be easier to understand to the local public.

Otherwise I don’t really care or trust much about this project based on its current presentation and information being conveyed to me.

  7. Why not a mix of both? Tunnel for cars and widen the existing road but make it bus lane only. 2 birds with one stone.

  8. How about none of the above and provide more public transport for the suburbs surrounding the motorway? And not just services to the city, but cross-suburb routes which integrate with other modes of PT as well

  9. Looking at this, they’ve just put option 2 there to tick a box. There’s no way in hell they’re doing the amount of home resumptions required for that to work, especially in the current housing crisis.

Looks like we’re getting another tunnel… Fuck me, can’t possibly consider doing anything to improve any type of transport. Just gotta build 1 more lane bro

  10. They always never fix the choke at toowong railway bridge crossing afront toowong village n coro drive.

  11. They want to build a tollway tunnel. Option 2 is designed to be so ridiculously disruptive it will never get up.

Don’t believe the spin about public transport upgrades; Still waiting for more than a token number of peak hour buses to use the legacy way tunnel.

Add a lane and make it a busway. Give people more options than the one train line. Build big park & ride facilities to make it an easy choice.

Any option that focuses only on cars will be chock a block again within days of opening.

  13. Trains are the fastest way to move large amounts of people. So here’s my plan:

Upgrade the Eagle Junction to Doomben line and extend it to Hamilton Northshore, Bulimba, Teneriffe, Newfarm, Mary Street (to interchange with the new Albert Street station), South Brisbane, St Lucia, Indooroopilly, Kenmore, Mt Ommaney and on to the Darra Station for people going to/from Ipswich or Springfield.

How many cars could we take off the road with this one new line?
