Im not german but my grandfather brought this back from the war a few generations back and I wanted to know if this crest was known. Initials KZ on the back.

The crest is only the bit on top of the helmet: what you have there is an *achievement* — more colloquially, a coat of arms, but strictly speaking a coat of arms is only the design on the shield.

This isn’t, though, a family coat of arms. It’s [the Middle Coat of Arms of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a6/Middle_Coat_of_arms_of_Hamburg.svg/988px-Middle_Coat_of_arms_of_Hamburg.svg.png). I can’t tell you if this is a tourist souvenir, or something your grandfather took from the city hall or something, but there’s no fascinating family secret to be unravelled here.
